The Ladislav Sutnar Gallery was established in May 2011 by transforming the existing University Gallery, situated in the cultural heart of the city – in the immediate vicinity of the J. K. Tyl Theater, Měšťanská beseda, the Study and Scientific Library of the Pilsen Region, the West Bohemian Museum or the City Library of Pilsen. Its long-term goal is to establish itself as a prestigious gallery that focuses mainly on exhibiting contemporary design and applied art. This position should reflect the increasing importance and importance of Ladislav Sutnar’s Faculty of Design and Art in Pilsen and regional culture and education. The gallery hosts exhibitions of home and visiting teachers and students, as well as cross-border and euroregional cooperation, introduces the public to the work of related foreign artists, designers and institutions – especially the partner cities of Pilsen and former, current and future European Capitals of Culture. It is thus an active participant in the Pilsen – ECoC 2015 project.
