MEDIUM Gallery was established January 8, 1991, as a part of Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. MEDIUM doesn’t serve merely as a gallery (with the exhibition area of 173 m2) but operates also a communication space of AFAD with a reach stretching beyond the school. The exhibition activities provide a way to both express and build upon the concept of art-teaching. They focus on all forms of contemporary art matching the wide spectrum of study programmes. The quality of the program is guaranteed by the Gallery Council (serving in two years cycle) composed of three representatives of the school, the head of the gallery and one external member, and responsible for the selection from the project entries. The selection of exhibition project entries takes place annually (in October). The main criterion of their acceptance and realisation is the quality, but at the same time, there is an effort to balance out the presentation of students and teachers working in this or affiliated school, curatorial concepts and exhibitions of the established local and international artists.
