GAMU (The Gallery of the Academy of Performing Arts) is a non-commercial art space, which has been active under the auspices of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague since 2008, organizing 10 – 12 exhibitions yearly. Its mission is to foster a conducive environment for the presentation of and critical reflection on contemporary art, focusing especially on artists from the youngest generation. As such, exhibitions of final and graduate works from students of the Academy and student projects from other fine art schools form an integral part of the gallery’s program. The second, equally substantial segment of the gallery’s program is comprised of curated exhibitions of more established artists, both Czech and foreign, whose work is based on new media, or transcends the boundaries of traditional art disciplines in an original way. Recently, the gallery has begun to develop a parallel platform for music, sound art, and multimedia performances to enhance the cross-disciplinary character of its program.
